The first Moxy by Marriott International

Today we want you to meet & greet - online at the moment - Moxy by Marriott International, one of our 4 hotels developed in partnership with Apex Alliance. Situated on Doamnei Street No 17-19, this is the first Moxy Hotel brought to Romania. With a 5 million euro budget, work on the Moxy hotel began in January 2018 and it is scheduled to finish in the autumn of 2019.

The concept is Miorița, inspired by the popular Romanian ballad.

The Marriott brand is conceived for Millennial, dynamic people, always on the go. Having their lifestyle in mind, the hotel’s space was designed with a playful, interactive, lively, urban, smart and comfortable tone. The public spaces have the atmosphere of a living room. Creativity is accentuated through visual, tactile and auditory stimuli, blending into a unit that creates the sensation of a fascinating bubble, frozen in time. 

”At the same time, in developing the concept, we had to mix in the original elements specific for each hotel in a theme chosen by us. In this case - the Miorița story was chosen to be told in a relaxed, urban manner through art and styling elements. Thus, the interior design also meant collaborating with local artists so as to ”dress” certain areas with mural drawings,” confesses arch. Eliza Yokina, one of the lead architects from Cumulus to work on the project.

The hotel has 119 rooms, each of 18 sqm. Although simple in style, the rooms’ grey & pink ambiance is playful. Each room is accessorized with a wide TV screen and wide windows that add brightness and coziness to the space. 

”We functionally reconverted the existing building from Doamnei Street No. 17-19 from an 1970’s office building to a 3 star brand hotel. Our purpose, from a construction viewpoint, was to completely reinforce the building with a partial opening of the staircases. The restoration and rehabilitation as well as the fittings were redone from scratch, so that the new building reflects the quality standard specific to the brand”, adds Eliza.
